We’re flunking in science and maths yet still teaching them to the British
The following article by Philip Ryan appeared in the Irish Mail on Sunday of August 16th, 2009.
In the week that Leaving Cert results in science and maths plumbed new depths, it has emerged that Britain is asking one Irish college to train its teachers in those two very subjects.
Hibernia College, which teaches one third of all primary school teachers in Ireland, 600 each year, started giving online Postgraduate Certificate in Education courses in teaching at secondary school level in 2006, in associate with the Canterbury College in Kent.
Hibernia College’s new offices on Lincoln Place have won an award at the Architectural Association of Ireland Awards 2009. The building, adjacent to the College’s existing offices on Clare Street, was designed by McCullough Mulvin Architects. The awards aim to encourage higher standards of architecture throughout the country, to inform the public about emerging directions in contemporary architecture and to recognise projects that make a contribution to Irish architecture.

Dr. Rowland has since won the award for Ernst & Young “Emerging” Entrepreneur of the Year 2008.
