Course Structure

Hibernia College’s H.Dip. in Arts in Primary Education takes place over two academic years. There are two intakes of students each year, in the spring and autumn.

The course is delivered using a blend of online and on-site face-to-face tuition. Approximately 45% of the programme is delivered online. The following is a breakdown of the time requirements of each element of the course:

  • On-demand online lectures and self study: approximately 12 hours per week
  • Online tutorials: approximately 2 hours per week
  • On-site workshops: at weekends at various locations throughout the country
  • School experience (e.g. observation): 4 weeks
  • Teaching practice: 14 weeks undertaken in a minimum of two schools
  • Irish: 3 weeks in the Gaeltacht
  • Physical education: practical active workshops

Assessment is performed through a combination of written examination and oral examination (Gaeilge) and continuous assessment, including assessment of classroom teaching practice.
