The elearnITT programme consists of four key elements:
School Experience
Trainees will undertake one primary school observation and two placements in two secondary schools. School experience is designed to give trainees the opportunity to become familiar with the work of a school and the nature of teaching and learning and to support their progress so that they become confident, competent and effective teachers able to demonstrate that they meet all of the standards for the award of qualified teacher status.
Professional Studies
The Professional Studies element concerns the exploration and examination of the generic educational and professional issues that have a bearing on the work of teachers across the curriculum in secondary schools. Professional Studies takes place both online and in school and is concerned with classroom issues, whole school issues and the role of education in wider society.
Subject Pedagogy
The Subject Pedagogy element concerns exploration and examination of teaching, learning and assessment in the specialist subject. Subject Pedagogy aims to enable participants to apply their knowledge and understanding of their specialist subject in classroom-based settings and to understand how young people learn and make progress in the subject taught.
Subject Knowledge Enhancement
The Subject Knowledge Enhancement programme is unique to elearnITT. Its inclusion in the programme aims to ensure that trainees with a wide variety of backgrounds and experience are sufficiently equipped to teach in key subject specialism areas. The approach is context-driven enquiry-based, with problem-solving being at the heart of each session. Science and Mathematics topics are approached in real-life contexts as far as possible in order to encourage trainees to think rather than simply accept knowledge and to look at what may be familiar subject knowledge in a different way, therefore developing a better understanding of their subject and creating relevance for pupils in the classroom.
