The Innovative Medicines Initiative

The Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) is a unique partnership between the European Union and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA). Its aim is to support the faster discovery and development of better medicines for patients and to enhance Europe’s competitiveness by ensuring that its biopharmaceutical sector remains a dynamic high-technology sector.

Hibernia College is a member of the European Federation of Courses in Pharmaceutical Medicine, which in partnership with IFAPP, has won the IMI call 16 (Pharmatrain) tender. Pharmatrain is a medicine training programme that aims to provide a comprehensive solution for the training needs of integrated drug development for all professionals involved in the industry.

More information is available on the IMI website here.

PharmaTrain aims to provide a comprehensive solution for the training needs of integrated drug development for all professionals involved: including physicians, pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, biologists, biometricians, health economists and safety and regulatory scientists from universities, regulatory agencies, large, middle-sized and small pharmaceutical enterprises, and allied companies providing contract research services, finance, clinical supplies, product manufacture and information, as well as from research ethics committees.*

This broad-based programme will greatly enhance the skill-sets and competencies of all key contributors to the drug development and regulatory processes using the latest scientific approaches in the development of medicines on pathophysiology, safety and risk-awareness, patient and population-based benefit as well as make the development process faster, more economical and more competitive.*

The PharmaTrain network is a collaboration between 60 leaders of 24 EFCPM University training programmes and 11 learned societies including regulatory agencies and DIA Europe, matched with 20 representatives of 15 EFPIA member companies. This high-level education in integrated drug development creates a competitive global advantage in developing new innovative medicines which Hibernia College will be at the forefront in bringing to its students and alumni.*

Student of Hibernia College’s M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Medicine (Drug Development) will receive state of the art online education from a world-wide faculty of industry experts and leading academics who will bring the benefits of their experience and the Pharmatrain programme.
