Brian is Head of School Placement (Post Primary) at Hibernia College. His research interests include Mathematics Education comprising the Teaching & Learning of Applications of Mathematics; Problem Solving; and Mathematical Modelling. He is also interested in Teacher Education including Teacher Quality and Qualification and Continuous Professional Development.
Brian has extensive experience working at both second and third level. He taught Mathematics and Physical Education for 12 years. He lectured various Mathematics modules throughout his doctoral studies in the University of Limerick while he has lectured Subject Pedagogy (Mathematics Education) in University College Dublin. He has worked with the National Centre for STEM Education in the University of Limerick in many mathematics education initiatives, namely the professional development of ‘out of field’ mathematics teachers on the Professional Diploma in Mathematics for Teaching. Brian has also been involved in the supervision and examination of M.Ed theses for Trinity College, Dublin. His research interests include Mathematics Education comprising the Teaching & Learning of Applications of Mathematics; Problem Solving; and Mathematical Modelling. He is also interested in Teacher Education including Teacher Quality and Qualification and Continuous Professional Development.
Brian holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physical Education and Mathematics and a Ph.D in Mathematics Education from University of Limerick.
