Biography

Dr Claire Redmond is an Assistant Professor in Education (Post-Primary ) in Hibernia College. Her background is in post-primary teaching in French and English. She has previously worked in the Adjunct Faculty in Hibernia College as an academic and school placement tutor and as a research supervisor. She has served as a representative member of the faculty on the Ethics and Teaching, Learning and Assessment committees before joining the full-time academic team.

Claire has also worked as part of the Professional Master of Education Teams in Trinity College and UCD. She has worked as part of the project team in Maynooth University and in partnership with the Higher Education Authority (HEA), investigating gender equality in language studies and developing outreach supports for schools.
She has worked with the PDST/Oide, Junior Cycle for Teachers (JCT) and as an examiner with the State Examinations Commission (SEC). She has written numerous textbooks for use in schools, such as Revise Wise, A Guide to Junior Cycle French, French Grammar made Easy and Get the Points! A Guide to Higher level French. She is also a contributing writer to The Irish Times.

Claire holds a PhD from University College Dublin. She was awarded the bursary prize from the Association of Secondary Schools in Ireland (ASTI) for original research during her PhD studies. The research examined the role of the media in the representation of junior cycle reform, the first study of its kind at PhD level in Ireland.

Research interests

Claire’s research interests are in the area of initial teacher education, teaching methodologies, inclusive practice and language literacy. She is an active member of the Literacy Association of Ireland (LAI) and a regular contributor to the association, most especially in the area of English as an additional Language (EAL).
