Biography

Elva is a Lecturer in Education on the Professional Master of Education (PME) programme, Lead Tutor for Early Childhood and School Placement Lead. Her roleinvolve supporting graduate students in school placements, Early Childhood studies and assessment. 

Elva has worked for over twelve years as a qualified primary school teacher. She has extensive experience teaching at all class levels. She also has significant experience working in Special Needs Education and has undertaken further professional develop studies in supporting children with autism and behavioural and emotional needs, teaching Infants and implementing the Aistear Framework. 

Prior to teaching, Elva worked with The European Commission as Press Officer. She has also worked in Brussels in the area of public affairs consultancy, providing EU public affairs and government relations services to the public and private sector. Her responsibilities included working on regulatory monitoring and intelligence and the analysis of the impact of EU legislation. She also liaised with journalists, wrote press releases and monitored media coverage. 

Elva received her Bachelor of Arts (History) from Trinity College, Dublin and was awarded The Carson Award for Academic Studies. She obtained a Higher Diploma in Education from Froebel College. She has a Masters in European Public Affairs from The University of Maastricht and The European Institute of Public Administration. She studied political and current affairs, negotiations skills and political lobbying. 

Research Interests

Pedagogically, Elva has a particular interest in the subjects of History and English. Elva is passionate about teaching Infants through play. She has used her primary degree in History to work on a number of archaeological excavations in Ireland. She has worked as a Library Co-ordinator and in collaboration with local businesses to develop a strong link with local and international authors in a school setting. Research interests include gender equality in primary education across varied school settings, outdoor play and inclusive Infant education.
