Biography

Hannah Tighe is a Lecturer in Nursing for the BSc (Hons) in General Nursing. Her role extends to Programme Lead in her areas of special interest and abilities. She has been a key contributor to the curriculum design and creation of content.

Having qualified as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) in 2004 through Beaumont Hospital and Dublin City University, she has since worked in several generalised areas of nursing care as well as the specialist care area of the Interventional Radiology Department in the Mater Hospital, Dublin. She has extended her nursing experience internationally with time spent in Sydney, Australia.

She completed her master’s degree in nursing education through National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) in 2014. Her special interest areas include infection prevention and control, pressure area care and the continuum of knowledge versus experience in the newly qualified to the highly experienced nurse.

Hannah has been working in education full-time for 14 years. She previously held a role as a clinical nurse advisor for several years, supporting surgeons intraoperatively with the facilitation of complex surgical equipment. She has accrued a wealth of experience in face-to-face teaching, delivering continuing professional development (CPD) postgraduate programmes for nurses within NMBI regulations and standards, and facilitating lectures, tutorials, skills lab workshops and evaluations in third-level and private healthcare settings. She has extensive experience in delivering online learning through a blended learning model and retains a keen interest in the need for and value of a positive student experience — for both their personal and academic development as part of their overall academic journey.

She has designed and delivered a range of QQI-validated modules and programmes and contributed to a review panel in 2015 whose curriculum review set industry standards in QQI quality assurance. She is an effective and intuitive communicator whose teaching aspirations remain focused on supporting students to achieve their full potential through the creation of an enthused, creative, innovative and supportive learning environment where each individual can thrive and where they may engender a lifelong commitment to learning.
