Master in Primary Education

Master in primary education

The Masters in Primary Education – Professional Master of Education in Primary Education was established to encourage a broader range of people to consider primary teaching as a profession by providing a more flexible route to becoming a fully qualified teacher and it is not a requirement to have prior teaching experience to be eligible to apply for this course. The programme is suited to all graduates.

Primary teaching course

The Primary teaching course is for those passionate in teaching young children. The core function of a Primary teacher is to educate children in the subjects on the National Curriculum. However the task of developing the appropriate skills and social abilities of the child is as critical.

The activities of the primary teacher include not only planning, lecturing and assessment, but also arranging and participating in extra-curricular activities and bridging communications between the school and parents. Furthermore the cooperation with the other staff members fosters a strong sense of team spirit.

Blended online masters in primary teaching

The design of the Masters in primary teaching, blending online and face-to-face tuition, is ideal for anyone who does not have easy access to one of the traditional education providers or who doesn’t have time to spend commuting to and from lectures daily.

Primary school teaching – career opportunities

There is a highly favourable employment outlook for our primary school teaching graduates, due to the demographic explosion in Ireland; the short term shortage in the number of newly qualified teachers resulting from new Teaching Council requirements, and the increasing international demand for Irish trained teachers.

According to the Irish Independent, Public Expenditure Minister Howlin said the country would need an extra 3,500 primary and secondary school teachers by 2021. (29/04/2015)
