On Wednesday 30th January, Hibernia College awarded five sport scholarships to elite sports people in rugby and tennis. The recipients are Ireland and Ulster Rugby players Andrew Trimble and Tommy Bowe, Connacht Rugby’s Michael Swift, TJ Anderson of Garryowen and Connacht Rugby, and Ireland’s number one ranked female tennis professional, Amy Bowtell.
The Scholarship Scheme was initiated in the autumn of last year in co-operation with the Gaelic Players Association, the Camogie Association, Irish Rugby Union Players’ Association and Tennis Ireland. Each organisation was offered scholarships for a number of their players. Applications in all cases were made to Hibernia College which assessed and decided on successful applicants.
These scholarship awards are to mark the launch of a new suite of undergraduate programmes in which participants will study with Hibernia College to attain a University of London undergraduate BSc degree in business, management, computing and information systems or creative computing. There is also a diploma programme in management for graduates.
Last week Hibernia College also awarded five sports scholarships to recipients from the GPA and the Camogie Association at Croke Park.
