If you are a healthcare assistant who wants to progress into nursing, our BSc (Hons) in Nursing in General Nursing is the programme for you. We are accepting applications for Spring 2023 until 12 October.
FLEXIBLE ENTRY ROUTES
Our programme was specifically designed to provide more flexible routes into nursing — for mature students and those who hold a further education nursing-related qualification.
We offer three application pathways:
- Mature student: over the age of 23
- Further education: one of four specified NFQ Level 5 courses with required distinctions
- Leaving Certificate: two H5 grades plus four O6/H7 grades in the required subjects
All applicants who meet the entry requirements of one pathway will be invited to share their passion for nursing in an interview.
Designed using our established blended learning model, the programme itself is also flexible. Developed with clinical partners, our programme provides unique access to quality undergraduate nurse education. Students engage in practical clinical learning and traditional classroom-based and online learning. Video and audio recordings, journal articles and book chapters, interactive learning activities and quizzes, as well as regular tutor and teaching webinars and moderated discussion forums are part of the online course content. Students also complete a total of 82 weeks of clinical placement in the programme.
With professional accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) and academic validation by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), the programme can be completed in three years and four months. Graduates are eligible to register as Registered General Nurses (RGNs).
OPPORTUNITIES AS A NURSE
So, where can a career in nursing take you? Nurses care for people in acute, community, residential and extended care settings and homes including HSE public hospitals, private hospitals, nursing homes and private clinics across Ireland. As qualified practitioners, nurses work individually and as part of a team to deliver holistic patient-centred healthcare.
You can consider expanding your skills to become a specialist nurse in wound care or diabetes care, for example, or progress to another qualification such as midwifery. Whether as a specialist or generalist, nurses advocate for their patients and can truly make a positive difference in another person’s life.
