Computer Science at Hibernia College

Teach students how computing technology impacts their world

Do you love Computer Science?

Computer Science is the study of computing and algorithmic processes and is one of the fastest growing fields, relevant to all sectors. Computer Science solves problems using programming and computational knowledge.

With your specialisation and enthusiasm, you can teach students about computational thinking, programming languages, computer systems and design and development. You will help them prepare for their future whether or not they pursue a career in technology.

Hibernia College offers Computer Science as a Teaching Subject in the Professional Master of Education (PME) in Post-Primary Education and is the largest initial teacher education provider in Ireland.

Do you have a Level 8 degree in Computer Science?

You must have an undergraduate degree at Level 8 or higher on the NFQ, which has an ECTS weighting of at least 180 credits. Prior teaching experience is not required to apply.

Do you meet the Teaching Council requirements?

You will be required to complete and submit a Subject Declaration Form (SDF). Check to see if you meet the requirements for the Computer Science SDF.

Become a teacher!

The PME in Post-Primary Education is a 120-credit award at Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ). It is delivered over 24 months and is a blended learning programme, combining online and face-to-face delivery to develop professionals positioned to be leaders in the field of post-primary education. Graduates will be prepared to register with the Teaching Council as a member of the teaching profession.

Our blended model is successful because it is committed to helping students meet academic and career goals, without putting their lifestyle on hold.
