The Professional Master of Education (PME) in Primary Education is a flexible route to becoming a qualified primary school teacher in Ireland.

Designed for graduates who want to teach children aged 4–12, this programme combines online learning with scheduled face-to-face elements, allowing students to balance study with work and personal commitments.

Through school placements and practical teaching experience, students develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to begin a rewarding career in primary education.

Please note: Due to the structure of the programme, applicants must reside in Ireland for the duration of their studies.

Professional Master of Education (PME) in Post-Primary Education

The Professional Master of Education (PME) in Post-Primary Education is a flexible route to becoming a qualified post-primary teacher in Ireland.

Ideal for graduates who want to teach students aged 12–18, the programme combines online learning with scheduled face-to-face attendance and school placements.

Students develop professional teaching skills while deepening their ability to engage, inspire and support learners in their chosen subject areas.

Our two-year, part-time Master of Arts in Education is delivered 100% online, allowing teachers and education professionals to study from anywhere in Ireland and beyond.

The programme is suitable for teachers and professionals working across education, early childhood, further education, health and social care, policy and community settings.

Participants develop advanced knowledge of contemporary educational practice, leadership and research.

Higher Diploma of Arts in Spanish for Teachers

Professional Development | Blended Learning | Fully Funded | October 2026 Intake

The Higher Diploma of Arts in Spanish for Teachers is designed for registered post-primary teachers who wish to develop the language proficiency, cultural understanding and pedagogical expertise required to teach Spanish at post-primary level in Ireland.

Fully funded by the Department of Education and Youth, this flexible part-time programme enables teachers to continue working while studying. Through a blend of online learning, evening webinars and scheduled face-to-face sessions, participants build confidence in teaching Spanish while working towards meeting Teaching Council subject requirements.

Over 24 months, students develop advanced Spanish language skills, explore Spanish culture and literature, and learn effective methodologies for teaching Spanish in Irish post-primary classrooms. The programme is particularly suited to teachers seeking to expand their teaching subject options and respond to growing demand for modern foreign languages in schools.

Please note: Applicants must be fully registered post-primary teachers with the Teaching Council and demonstrate a minimum Spanish language proficiency of CEFR A2. Tuition fees are fully funded by the Department of Education and Youth.

Certificate in Therapeutic Use of Play and Expressive Arts in Education

Professional Development | 100% Online | QQI Level 9 Micro-Credential | November Intake

The Certificate in Therapeutic Use of Play and Expressive Arts in Education is a 100% online micro-credential designed for teachers, educators and professionals who support inclusion, communication, wellbeing and engagement for children and adolescents in educational settings.

This flexible 12-week programme explores how play, creativity and expressive arts can strengthen relationships, support emotional wellbeing and promote inclusive educational practice. Drawing on contemporary research and evidence-informed approaches, participants develop practical strategies that can be applied immediately in classrooms and other educational environments.

Designed for teachers, special needs assistants (SNAs), youth workers, early childhood practitioners and other professionals supporting children and young people, the programme combines theory, reflective practice and experiential learning to build confidence in using creative approaches that foster inclusion, communication and meaningful engagement.

Please note: This programme is currently pending QQI validation. Subject to validation, it will be awarded as a QQI Level 9 micro-credential worth 10 ECTS credits. It supports professional development for educators and allied professionals and does not provide a teaching qualification.

MA / Postgraduate Diploma in Inclusive and Special Education

The MA/PG Dip in Inclusive and Special Education is designed for teachers and professionals who support learners with additional and special educational needs.

The programme, developed jointly by Hibernia College and the Institute of Child Education and Psychology (ICEP) Europe, equips participants with the knowledge, skills and leadership capabilities needed to promote inclusive education across early years, primary, post-primary and special education settings.

It is particularly relevant for teachers working in special education roles or those seeking leadership opportunities in inclusion and special education.
