Biography

Brigid Corriganis an Assistant Professor in Education (Post-Primary) in Hibernia College with responsibility for the inclusion modules, Inclusion, Diversity and Global Education and Inclusive pedagogies.  

Brigid has a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Mathematics and a Higher Diploma in Education as well as a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology and a Post Graduate certificate in Mathematics Education.  

Brigid has taught at second level for over twenty years in Dublin and engaged in post graduate research during this time in physical science pedagogy. While on secondment with the teacher support services, Junior Cycle for teachers (JCT) and Oide, Brigid worked across a number of areas including Science, Physical Education and Programme Support, designing and facilitating professional learning events for curriculum reform and redevelopment at both junior and senior cycle.  

Brigid’s passion for promoting learning has involved engaging locally with Science Busking events on the streets and at festivals and globally through Science on Stage events sharing learning ideas with teachers from other countries and cultures.  

Brigid represented Ireland internationally in athletics for twenty years at junior and senior level.  

Brigid’s teaching philosophy is underpinned by Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory of cognitive development that emphasises the role of social interaction and culture in learning. Brigid joined the Academic Team in Hibernia College in September 2025.  

Research interests

Brigid’s research interests include exploring the social context of learning and novel pedagogical approaches for ‘learning for all’ about the world around us, through the lens of challenging STEM-based concepts.
