Biography
Is Léachtóir Cúnta san Oideachas (Bunscolaíocht) í Áine NicCionnaith le Coláiste Hibernia, le speisialtóireacht sa Ghaeilge agus sa Chorpoideachas. Tá beagnach 20 bliain de thaithí aici ag teagasc ar leibhéal bunscoile, iar‑bhunscoile agus tríú leibhéal in Éirinn agus go hidirnáisiúnta. Tá céim céadonóracha aici ó Ollscoil Luimnigh (2007), chomh maith le MA sa Cheannaireacht Oideachais – Leading Sport in Schools ó Ollscoil Buckingham (2023).
Díríonn a cuid oibre ar oideachas lán‑Ghaeilge, ar fhoghlaim ghairmiúil agus ar fhorbairt an churaclaim, lena n‑áirítear comhoibriú leis an tSraith Shóisearach do Mhúinteoirí (SSM/JCT) agus d’oibrigh sí go dlúth le hOide ar roinnt tionscadal forbartha thar thréimhse cúig bliana. Sa bhliain 2023, ghlac sí páirt i dtionscadail de chuid na Roinne Oideachais a bhain le Foghlaim Chomhtháite Ábhair agus Teanga (FCÁT/CLIL), le béim ar leith ar theagasc na Gaeilge tríd an gCorpoideachas. Tá Áine gníomhach i dtionscnaimh athbheochana teanga le coistí áitiúla i nGaeltacht Dhún na nGall agus faoi láthair feidhmíonn sí mar cheannaire na Gaeilge laistigh den chomhaontas nua‑bhunaithe, An Lárionad do Litríocht agus Oideolaíocht Leanaí, Éire, in éineacht leis an Dr. Lorraine Lawrance (Coláiste Hibernia). Is foghlaimeoir teanga ar feadh a saoil í Áine; leanann sí uirthi ag forbairt a cuid inniúlachta sa Fhraincis agus léiríonn sí bá láidir ina teagasc, bunaithe ar thuiscint ar eispéiris foghlama teanga na mac léinn.
I measc a cuid spéiseanna taighde tá Foghlaim Chomhtháite Ábhair agus Teanga (CLIL), an tumoideachas, úsáid na Gaeilge i measc foghlaimeoirí fásta agus i measc an diaspóra, logainmneacha agus seanfhocail ón tSean‑Ghaeilge, agus idirghabhálacha folláine do leanaí in aois scoile.
Áine NicCionnaith is an Assistant Professor in Education (Primary) with Hibernia College, with dual specialism in Gaeilge and Physical Education. She has nearly 20 years’ experience teaching across primary, post‑primary, and third‑level education in Ireland and internationally. Áine holds a first‑class honours degree from the University of Limerick (2007), along with an MA in Education Leadership – Leading Sport in Schools from the University of Buckingham (2023).
Her work focuses on Irish‑medium education, professional learning, and curriculum development, including collaboration with Junior Cycle for Teachers (JCT). She also worked closely with Oide on multiple development projects over a five‑year period. In 2023, she contributed to Department of Education projects related to Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), with a particular emphasis on teaching Gaeilge through Physical Education. Áine is actively involved in Gaeltacht language revitalisation initiatives with local committees in the Donegal Gaeltacht and currently serves as Irish Language Lead within the newly formed alliance, the Centre for Children’s Literature and Pedagogy, Ireland, alongside Dr Lorraine Lawrance (Hibernia College). Áine is a lifelong language learner, continues to develop her proficiency in French, and brings strong empathy to her teaching, informed by students’ language‑learning experiences.
Her research interests include Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), immersion education, Gaeilge use among adult and diaspora learners, placenames and Old Irish proverbs, and wellbeing interventions for school‑aged children.

Áine also serves on local Gaeltacht committees, where she is dedicated to revitalising the Irish language and culture across generations.
