Why did you choose teaching and why Hibernia College?

I chose teaching, as I realised I had a passion for education after spending a year teaching secondary school. I enjoy inspiring children and encouraging them to reach the best of their abilities. I choose Hibernia College as it was the most accessible means of pursuing my dream of becoming a primary school teacher. The accessibility and flexibility of the course made the course very appealing.

Roghnaigh mé staidéar a dhéanamh le Coláiste Hibernia, toisc go raibh an chúrsa solúbtha ó thaobh uaireanta chloig, agus go raibh mé in ann teacht ar ábhar an chúrsa ar líne. Bhí paisean agam don mhúinteoireacht i ndiaidh bliain a chaitheamh ag múineadh meánscoile. Tugann an mhúineadh spreagadh dom, agus is breá liom nuair a bhaineann leanaí barr a maitheasa amach.

What field of work or study were you in before you started your PME?

I spent three years studying in the National University of Ireland, Galway and graduated with an honors degree in Gaeilge and Léann an Aistriúcháin in 2015. I spent a year teaching at post primary level and a year working as a cuairteoir baile, introducing and improving Irish with families living in the Gaeltacht.

Caith mé trí mbliana ag staidéar na Gaeilge agus Léann an Aistriúcháin in Ollscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh agus bhain mé céim amach sa bhliain 2015. Ina dhiaidh seo, chaith mé bliain ag múineadh méanscoile agus an bhliain dár gcionn ag obair sa phobal le scéim Tús Maith.

Can you tell us a bit about your research project and why you focused on this area?

I chose to focus my research project on the topic of Tumoideachas, as having grown up in the Gaeltacht, it was an area which interested me. After completing two of my school placements in Gaeltacht schools, I decided that tumoideachas was an area that I wanted to explore and learn more about.

Roghnaigh mé mo chuid taighde a dhéanamh ar an Tumoideachas, toisc go rugadh agus tógadh mé sa ghaeltacht. Tar éis dhá shocrúchán scoile a dhéanamh i scoileanna Gaeltachta, bheartaigh mé níos mó taighde a dhéanamh ar réimse na Tumoideachais i scoileanna Gaeltachta,

Now that you have graduated, what are your plans?

I was lucky enough to secure a position in Gaelscoil Charraig Ui Leighin and I am currently teaching fifth class. I am thoroughly enjoying my role as class teacher and I am delighted to have the opportunity to instill a love for Gaeilge in the children.

Bhí an t-adh liom tairiscint poist a fháil i nGaelscoil Charraig Uí Leighin agus is ansin a táim ag múineadh rang a cúig i mbliana. Tá an-taitneamh á bhaint agam as a bheith i mo mhúinteoir ranga agus a bheith i ann an ghrá don teanga a chur ar aghaidh go dtí an chéad ghlúin eile.

What piece of advice would you give to any person considering starting a PME.

I would advise anyone considering studying a PME to be prepared, be organised and be willing to work hard. I would also advise them to accept support from family, friends and fellow students especially during the busier periods of school placement.

Mholfainn d’éinne atá ag smaoineamh ar an MGO a dhéanamh a bheith toilteanach obair chrua a dhéanamh agus a bheith eagraithe chuige. Mholfainn dóibh chomh maith, glacadh le cabhair agus tacaíocht ó cháirde, clann agus comhscoláirí, go háirithe i rith na tréimhsí socrúcháin scoile.
