Why did you choose to pursue a career in nursing, and why did you choose Hibernia College?

I chose to study nursing because I love meeting new people, getting to know them and supporting them. As a nurse you support patients across all stages of life, and I think it’s a really meaningful career. I chose to study at Hibernia College as the accelerated pace of the programme and blended learning model worked well for me as a mature student with young children.

What field of work or study were you in before you started your nursing degree?

I worked as a special education teacher, supporting children who have complex needs.

Can you tell us a bit about your research project or clinical focus area, and what drew you to this topic?

My research area was nursing care in outreach programmes for people who are homeless and who have substance use disorders. Social determinants of health and equitable access to health care are an area of professional interest for me.

Now that you have graduated, what are your plans for the future? *

I hope to complete a Master’s degree in an area related to outreach nursing.

What advice would you give to someone considering studying nursing at Hibernia College?

The course is enjoyable but also intense. Similarly, placements can be great fun but also tough at times. If you’re motivated to learn and work hard, you’ll find it really rewarding. You’ll also make some great friends!
