Biography

Dr Brian Cahill is a primary school teacher who graduated from Mary Immaculate College in 2003. With more than 18 years of teaching experience, he has worked in a multigrade setting across different class ranges and has also worked in Special Educational Needs (SEN). In addition to his extensive teaching background, Brian has held leadership roles, including serving as a deputy principal for four years and as a teaching principal for over six years. He has been a tutor for the Post Graduate Diploma for School Leadership and has experience as a research supervisor for the PME programme at University College Cork.

In 2019, Brian achieved a first-class honors Masters in Education from University College Cork. His research during this time focused on the challenges associated with teaching principalship. Following this, Brian joined the Cohort PhD in Education program at University College Cork.

Brian graduated as a Doctor in Education in June 2024 from UCC. His thesis was titled, Primary school principal turnover: investigating the factors affecting primary school principal retention.
