Biography

Caroline Hogan Sheils is an Assistant Professor in Education (Post-Primary) in Hibernia College. Caroline has been teaching in the post-primary sector for the last 24 years teaching Geography and Mathematics and in Further Education. She has also worked as an examiner and superintendent with the State Examinations Commission. Before joining Hibernia College on a full-time basis Caroline was a tutor with the adjunct faculty and worked in the areas of Teaching Methodologies, Teaching Subject Mastery, Research and School Placement. She was presented with a Teaching Hero Award by the National Forum, in collaboration with the Union of Students in Ireland in recognition of her work with Hibernia College students. Caroline has lectured part-time in Mathematics and mentored as a University Tutor at Maynooth University. She also worked in the area of School Placement with the University College Dublin.

Caroline holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Higher Diploma in Education and a Masters in Education. She also has completed additional postgraduate qualifications in the area of Mathematics, Information Technology and Educational Leadership and Management. Her research pertained to active methodologies in the teaching of Mathematics, the role of ICT to promote learning and inclusive education.

 

Research interests

Caroline is specifically interested in the areas of student and teacher wellbeing, student teacher mentoring to promote professional development and Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship Education.
