Education
Biography
Before joining Hibernia College, Deirdre spent three years at the National College of Ireland (NCI), where she lectured and supervised students undertaking a BA in Early Childhood Education and Care. During this time, she also worked as an educational Research Assistant on the COALESCE-funded Professional Identity for Khmer Teachers (PIKT) project.
In addition to her work at NCI, Deirdre brings over a decade of experience in primary education across England and Ireland. Her roles have included class teacher, Special Education Teacher, subject coordinator, team leader, and Assistant Headteacher. In her leadership capacity, she mentored and trained both student teachers and early career teachers.
Deirdre is currently undertaking a Doctor of Education at DCU, specialising in Professional Learning and Teacher Education. She also holds a Master of Arts in Educational Practices (NCI, 2023), a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Management (DCU, 2021), a Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership (University College London, 2017), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (University College London, 2009), and a Bachelor of Business Studies (DCU, 2003).
Research interests
Deirdre’s research interests include teacher professional learning, reflective practices, and mentoring.
