Biography

Dr. Melanie Ní Dhuinn is Dean of the School of Education in Hibernia College. Prior to this she worked as an Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Education in Marino Institute of Education, as Assistant Professor of Teacher Education in Trinity College Dublin and as Programme Director of the PDE in Hibernia College. Melanie has worked across primary and post-primary teacher education programmes, taught modules in Sociology of Education and Research Methods and is a doctoral supervisor in the School of Education in Trinity College. A former post-primary teacher of Physical Education and Gaeilge, she was a member of the Teaching Council (2018–2022) and a member of national research and professional forums. She has designed and coordinated a number of initial teacher education programmes at primary and post-primary level through the medium of the Irish and English language. She acts as a programme accreditation panel member for QQI.

 

Research interests

Her primary research interests are in the field of teacher education, with a special interest in global citizenship education. She is also interested in looking at general educational issues through a sociological and social justice lens and is the creator and presenter of the Let’s Talk About Sociology of Education podcast. Current research includes research with US colleagues on podcasting as a legitimate academic resource, teacher preparation for working with migrant and displaced children in Ireland and the United States and teacher education programme standards in the United States and Ireland. She is a member of the Ubuntu Network Céim Project Team, funded by Irish Aid and is currently working on a number of other funded policy related research projects.
