Education

Biography

Oliver O’Halloran is an Assistant Professor in Nursing in Hibernia College. Having initially qualified as a Paediatric Nurse in 1995 he has since registered and practiced as a General Nurse, Public Health Nurse, Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse Prescriber. He has extensive professional nursing experience across acute and primary care, as a staff Nurse, Clinical Nurse Manager, Director of Nursing, Public Health Nurse, Practice Development Co-ordinator and Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

Additionally, he is registered as a Teacher with the Teaching Council of Ireland having completed a Graduate Diploma in Adult and Further Education in Mary Immaculate College Limerick, his action research focused on the impact of his teaching and learning strategies on student learning outcomes. He has professional teaching experience in the Adult and Further Education sector.

Oliver gained a MHSC in Nursing from the University of Galway (2008) his research focused on the lived experience of older adults in Residential Care in Ireland. Oliver also holds additional specialist Nursing qualifications in Gerontological Nursing, having completed a Higher Diploma in Gerontological Nursing in the University of Galway (2003), Public Health Nursing, having completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health Nursing in the University of Galway (2009) and Advanced Practice Nursing, having completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Practice Nursing, University of Galway (2019).

Research interests

Oliver’s research interests include enquiry of the meaning of the lived experience of older adults utilising healthcare. Additionally, he has an interest in the impact of teaching and learning strategies on student learning outcomes.
